Peptide Therapy in Conroe & Serving The Woodlands, TX
What are peptides?
A peptide is a short chain of two or more amino acids linked by a chemical bond called a peptide bond. When organized into complex structures of 50 or more amino acids, peptides become proteins.
Amino-acids are like letters, peptides like words or sentences and proteins like paragraphs, chapters and books.
Most peptides are modified in a special lab from natural peptide signaling molecules in the body.
Different peptides play key roles in many functions within the body, including blood pressure regulation, control of cellular function and balancing body fluids. They are also the basis of various medications and supplements. Some peptide supplements may help reduce inflammation, boost wound healing and collagen formation, and build muscle.
Types of peptides:
- Endogenous peptides are made by the body. They are naturally released from proteins and secreted from cells in the body.
- Exogenous peptides are manufactured or produced outside of the body by laboratory processes and are tailored to produce specific functions while reducing unwanted effects.
- Peptides are often categorized based on whether they come from plants or animals and the length of the amino acid chain. For example, dipeptides have two amino acids, whereas oligopeptides have a few amino acids, and polypeptides have between 20 to 50 amino acids.
Peptides can be used for antioxidant effects, antimicrobial effects, anti-inflammatory effects, anti-clotting effects, increased metabolism, wound healing, fat loss, muscle gain and others.
